About Us
North Mississippi Storm Chasers and Spotters was the brainchild of founder Brett Wicker back in 2003. He slowly began bringing in additional members as he found individuals who he felt shared his passion for weather and severe storms and were committed to documenting and reporting on them safely. From those humble beginnings, the team has grown to over 30 members who live throughout Mississippi. We are all volunteers with varied backgrounds, but we all share the common interest and love of severe weather that the team was first founded on 18 years ago, and have taken that love to build NMSCAS into the preeminent storm chasing team in Mississippi and arguably the Southeast United States with a following of over 160,000 fans in Mississippi and the surrounding area as well as a few international fans.
We are deeply grateful for those who put their trust in us to provide severe weather information before, during, and after events. We strive to continually earn and maintain that trust by providing no-nonsense information without the overhype and scare tactics used by other groups and chasers. You can rest assured that all information you receive from us is accurate, to the point, and free of clickbait-style headings.
During severe weather events, our team fans out across the region to document and report background truth weather conditions to several government and media groups. Our primary reporting groups are the National Weather Service, our media partner Mississippi Live Weather (based in Tupelo), ABC24 Memphis, and The Delta News. However, our reach extends beyond there as we also have close working relationships with the American Red Cross and emergency management agencies in the area.
We provide that information back to the NWS, media, and general public in a myriad of ways, including direct phone calls, HAM radio, and social media, including live streams from our storm chasers that provide real-time visuals of what they are seeing and experiencing. It should be noted that our chasers uphold the highest standards and ethics in their duties. There is zero tolerance for showboating or any activity that puts the general public at risk.
We are looking forward to the future as a team, continually seeking ways to improve the accuracy and timeliness of the information we provide. We are excited you are along for the ride with us. We are the North Mississippi Storm Chasers… Being there before, during, and after the storm!
