About Us

North Mississippi Storm Chasers and Spotters was the brain child of founder, Brett Wicker, back in 2003. He slowly started bringing in additional members as he found individuals who he felt shared his passion for weather and severe storms and were committed to documenting and reporting on those storms in a safe manner. From those humble beginnings, the team today has grown to over 30 members who live throughout the north Mississippi area. We are all volunteers with varied backgrounds, but we all share the common interest and love of severe weather that the team was first founded on 17 years ago, and have taken that love to build NMSCAS into the preeminent storm chasing team in Mississippi and arguably the Southeast United States with a following of over 100,000 fans in Mississippi and the surrounding area as well as a few international fans.

We are deeply grateful for those that put their trust in us to provide severe weather information before, during, and after events. We strive to continually earn and keep that trust by only providing no nonsense information without all the overhype and scare tactics employed by other group and chasers. You can rest assured that all information you receive from us is accurate, to the point, and absent of clickbait style headings.

During severe weather events, our team fans out across the region to document and report back ground truth weather conditions to several government and media groups. Our two primary reporting groups are the National Weather Service and our media partner, WTVA, based in Tupelo, MS. However, our reach extends beyond there as we also have close working relationships with the American Red Cross and emergency management agencies in the area.

We provide that information back to the NWS, media, and general public in a myriad of ways including direct phone calls, HAM radio, and social media, including live streams of our storms chasers providing real time visuals of what they are seeing and experiencing. It needs to be noted that our chasers undertake their duties with the highest of standards and ethics. There is zero tolerance for show boating or other activities which put the general public at risk.

We are looking forward to the future as a team as we continually look for ways to improve the accuracy and timeliness of the information we provide. We are excited you are along for the ride with us. We are North Mississippi Storm Chasers and Spotters…Your weather. Your questions. Your calm during the storm.
